Role of the School Social Worker

 

on the Child Study Team

School Social Workers Need To Know:

It is the responsibility of the school district to provide the services of a Child Study

Team. The School Social Worker completes a social assessment which includes observation of the student and communication with the student's parent(s)/guardian(s). It also includes an evaluation of the student's social functioning, emotional development and the family factors that influence the student's learning and behavior in the educational setting.

Individualized Educational Program

The Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) is a plan or program developed to ensure that a child who has a disability identified under the law and is attending an elementary or secondary educational institution receives specialized instruction and related services.
