Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

 9.4% of 2-17-year-old children (approximately 6.1 million) have received an ADHD diagnosis.

What it looks like in school

 

Student:

  • Increased impulsivity

  • Incomplete/missing homework

  • Lack of focus/concentration

  • Poor mental sustainability

  • Poor peer connection

Diagnostic Criteria

Anxiety

7.1% of 3-17-year-old children (approximately 4.4 million) have diagnosed anxiety

What it looks like in school

Student:

  • School refusal

  • Difficulty separating from parent

  • Constant worry

  • Trouble completing work

  • Poor social interactions with peers

  • Limited peer/family connections

Behavior Disorders

7.4% of  3-17-year-old children (approximately 4.5 million) have a diagnosed behavior disorder

What is looks like in school

Student:

  • Appears angry

  • Blames others

  • Difficulty following rules

  • Questions authority

  • Temper tantrums

  • Easily frustrated

Diagnostic Criteria

Depression

3.2% of 3-17-year-old children (approximately 1.9 million) have diagnosed depression

What it looks like in school​

Student:

  • An overall decrease in academic and social functioning

  • Poor concentration

  • Withdrawal from teachers/peers

  • School refusal

  • Changes in appetite and sleep hygiene

  • Somatic complaints

  • Suicidal thoughts/ideation
